How to Choose an EMCOD LED Driver

Match topology, voltage, load, input, control, class, and installation to the actual EMCOD family — not to wattage class alone.

Selection flow

  1. 1. Constant voltage vs constant current

    Read the LED load, not the driver catalog first. Tape and most 12/24 V DC fixtures need constant voltage. Modules marked in milliamps need constant current. ECC-UD is the published EMCOD constant-current family. Do not treat it as a constant-voltage choice.

  2. 2. Required output voltage

    For CV loads, 12 V DC and 24 V DC are different products. MLE60-12DC-P is not interchangeable with MLE60-24DC-P. For CC loads, output current lives on the specification sheet, not in a 12DC/24DC grammar.

  3. 3. Required load / wattage

    Add connected watts, then choose a listed wattage class at or above that load. Wattage class alone is not a complete selection. Continue in the sizing guide for worked examples.

  4. 4. Input voltage

    MLE-P catalog/spec path uses 120 V input. Several UD and EDR records use a wider input range. Confirm the selected MPN sheet before assuming 100–277 V.

  5. 5. Dimming / control

    Confirm the method on the exact specification sheet. Family labels such as UD are not a dimmer list. MLE-P phase-cut language on sourced sheets is manufacturer documentation; it is not automatically copied into product structured facts.

  6. 6. Class / environment / enclosure

    Match Class 2, dry/damp/wet, and enclosure to the installation. MLE-P listed models use a plastic housing for dry/damp J-box locations. Other families use different enclosures.

  7. 7. Physical installation

    J-box, DIN rail, integrated dimmer/driver, and magnetic enclosures are different products. EDR is DIN-rail. EDD integrates the dimmer with the driver. ML is magnetic, not an electronic UD family.

ECC-UD is not a constant-voltage choice

ECC-UD is the published EMCOD constant-current family. Example: ECC-010-UD. Do not group it with MLE-P, MLE-UD, ECV-UD, ES-UD, or EDR as a 12/24 V tape driver. Continue in Constant Voltage vs Constant Current. Source: EMCOD manufacturer specifications

Common questions

Is ECC-UD a 12 V or 24 V driver family?

Neither as a CV choice. ECC-UD is constant-current. Output current is on the specification sheet. Do not group ECC-UD with MLE-P, MLE-UD, or EDR as a 12/24 V tape driver.

Can I choose MLE-P by wattage alone?

No. MLE60-24DC-P is a current 60 W, 24 V DC, constant-voltage catalog model. A 60 W 12 V sibling such as MLE60-12DC-P is a different product. Confirm input, dimming, class, and enclosure on the selected sheet.

Is every UD family interchangeable?

No. UD is a series suffix on MLE-UD, ECV-UD, ES-UD, and ECC-UD. Those families do not share one topology or one dimming list. Confirm the exact MPN sheet.
